CDC Awards $1.25M to U of A Engineers Retooling Mine Production and Safety

From mapping ore to predicting slope behavior and reclaiming land, mining is a rapidly evolving technological industry. Yet planning and operations have not necessarily kept up with the advancements. 

With $1.25 million from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, or NIOSH, mining and geological engineering researchers in the University of Arizona College of Engineering are boosting their efforts to better align technology, including artificial intelligence, and planning for improved safety and productivity.
