David Ebert named U of A chief AI and data science officer

The University of Arizona has appointed Dr. David Ebert, a leading expert in AI and data science, as its first Chief AI and Data Science Officer, supported by a $3.5 million anonymous gift. Ebert will lead the university’s AI strategy, coordinate the launch of a new Data Science Institute, and integrate AI across research, academics, and operations.
He joins the College of Engineering as a tenured professor and will help shape a new computer science engineering program. With deep expertise in explainable AI, data visualization, and predictive analytics, Ebert will drive interdisciplinary innovation and position UArizona as a global leader in the responsible use of AI.
