Governor Katie Hobbs Announces Members of Arizona's First AI Steering Committee

Governor Katie Hobbs has named Dr. Elliott Cheu, interim Chief Information Officer and Distinguished Professor of Physics at the University of Arizona, to Arizona’s first Artificial Intelligence Steering Committee. The 19-member group will develop a statewide framework to guide the ethical and effective use of AI technologies.
Dr. Cheu’s appointment reflects the university’s leadership in innovation, public service, and responsible tech development. Drawing from his experience in advanced research and IT strategy, Dr. Cheu will help ensure AI implementation in Arizona reflects transparency, accountability, and equity.
The committee will deliver initial recommendations by spring 2026, focusing on governance, public engagement, and AI education.
